FINALLY!

This is just a quick post because I'm dashing out the door!
Sorry that I've been so quiet - I know if anyone managed to find this blog and then find it interesting it would have been really rubbish to notice that it had practically stopped!

This was down to 3 things:
Work: There's a LOT going on at the moment!
Family: Again - stressful times there.
Training: I couldn't find a swimming pool anywhere even remotely close that would let me train with my monofin.

But aftee some sneaky detective work I have found a gym that is practically unknow to the general public - and I'm going there to get a membership TODAY!

I've already been in to see them and they've said that I can use my monofin during offpeak times. I'M SO EXCITED!

I'm also crazy nervous that I'm gna suck amd drown...but hey! If you wanna be a mermaid you gotta take the risks right!?

WISH ME LUCK!

Kickstarter - Funding my tail!

Kickstarter - Raising money to make my tail!Have you heard of kickstarter? Well it was new to me! But I've just submitted one for review, in the hope that the people of kickstarter will help me raise the money I need in order to make my mermaid tail!

I'm very excited about this prospect! As I recently found out that I'm going to have an accommodation-paid-for holiday to America in November this year - which is obviously very exciting (I've never been to America!), but I still need to manage to save between £2000-£3000 to pay for flights, food, attractions, souvenirs etc, this is the only opportunity I will have to receive free accommodation, so I can't afford to miss out! However this does mean that the money I have been saving up for my tail - now needs to go towards America.

So discovering kickstarter has felt like a little bit of a lifesaver! I just have to hope that my campaign takes off!

I will be launching my campaign on Monday! So stay tuned for the link ;)

How did my first monofin swimming sesh go you ask?
Well, it didn't...

As stated in my previous post - I called one of my local swimming pools this morning to check that they allow monofins in the pool, and the woman on reception
said that they did. So I head off on my merry way, super duper
excited. I get to the pool, pop on my cozzy, walk to the deep end
of the pool clutching my monofin (whilst receiving some very
confused looks), sit on the edge, attach my monofin to my feet
with ease (super chuffed about that since I forgot to practice
getting it on and off - LOVE this thing!), slip into the pool...

And then the lifeguard starts walking over.
"S'cuse me sorry, you aren't allowed those in the pool"
"But I called up? I already asked someone and they said I could"
"Who did you speak to?"
"I'm not sure, someone on reception - it was a woman"
"Oh, well I'm really sorry but they're definitely not allowed. I'm happy to give you a refund, the person you spoke to wasn't properly informed"

So there you go...sucks...

I am now going to spend most of tomorrow calling EVERY SINGLE swimming pool in Berkshire to find out if any of them will let me train with my monofin.

Otherwise you might be able to spot a very cold Mermaid In Training swimming down the Thames rather soon...

Look what arrived!

Got home last night to this GIANT PACKAGE! 😍

There was only one thing it would be...MY MONOFIN! I had only ordered it 2 days before from Mike's diving on amazon and I chose the free delivery option - so big props to them!

It's so beautiful and BIG! It's a 'Swea'm' fin - will put up the exact details of it in my next post (as I cannot remember off the top of my head) BUT IM SO EXCITED!

I've called one of my local pools and apparently they allow monofins RESULT! So I'm going swimming with it in about 20 mins!

Now to just try not to drown...

I've not had any experience - so it's certainly going to be interesting! I will post my experience and a 'beginners review' of the fin when I get back! 😁😂

Introducing...ME!

Hi There!
So, I'm Grace and I love, love, LOVE all things mermaid! Which perhaps sparked from the fact that I also love all things Disney? It wouldn't surprise me if it all stemmed from watching The Little Mermaid as a child - Ariel being my favourite Disney Princess!

That could be considered controversial for me to say - since I am a 'Disney' face character for (nearly) ALL Princesses here in England! Currently? I am playing Elsa much more than anything else!
(If you are interested in my adventures as Elsa follow @TheRealElsaUK on twitter)

I am 22 (Nearly 23 aaghhgrheghgfhj!!!) and I live in Berkshire. I -very- recently started my own business called The Princess Portal (shameless plug) - we make personalised video messages from your favourite princesses - and it wasn't long before I realised...
I WANT TO BE A MERMAID!

Ok, so technically I have wanted to be a mermaid since I knew such things existed, walking on two legs is SO old fashioned...But it was only recently that I realised me dream might just become a reality!

In America they have a crazy mermaid culture thing going on - mermaids everywhere! So it's time to let the English have a little fun!

I plan on becoming a professional mermaid for hire by next year and this is a blog to document everything that it is going to take for that to become a reality. Such as:

Training:
Learning to swim with a monofin - Getting totally fit - Holding my breath underwater for 4 minutes
(That last one will be especially hard since I have asthma...may even be impossible :/ )

Tail:
I want utter realism, so silicone is a must - But to make or buy is the question?
(Starting at about £1600 - making seems obvious, but they still cost at least £500 to make - so that's a lot of money wasted if it goes wrong!)

Marketing:
How exactly do you get work for this sort of thing!?

It's certainly going to be interesting! Feel free to tag along ;)
